Call for entries POLINIZA DOS 2019 Trobada d'Art Urbà

The Office of Cultural Activities of the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia presents the rules of the official announcement for participation in POLINIZA DOS 2019 (Urban Art Meeting), whose winners will appear in the XIV edition of this urban art event by the UPV, which will be held from 13th to 17th May 2019.
Based on the consideration of wall painting as a painting done on an architectural support, plastically and symbolically associated with the urban environment, all artists over 18 years old interested in taking part can do so individually or collectively.

Timeline for registration and applications: February 1 to March 21 both dates inclusive

Among the applications received, a jury will choose the artists who will participate in this year’s edition by painting a mural, and the artists who will carry out other types of intervention projects (sculptures, installations…) in the different spaces prepared for the meeting.

Additionally, during the week, talks will be offered by the same artists who participate in it. They will speak about their work and their vision of these eminently urban artistic practices.

This year's keynote will be the presence of the American researcher Craig Castleman, associate professor of communication at Manhattan’s Bernard M. Baruch College and the prestigious author of the book Getting Up, regarded as one of the most relevant studies on the New York subway graffiti. Castleman has been invited to POLINIZA DOS in collaboration with INDAGUE, a Spanish association of researchers and diffusers of graffiti and urban art.

Once more, the curators of the event will give guided tours of it, and children (aged 6 to 11 years) will be able to enjoy the "Menudo Poliniza" workshop.

2019 edition news and guests

Continuing with the desire to internationalise the event and promote the relationship with foreign countries, this year Peru will be the guest country. We will approach the explosive world of lettering by the hand of the muralist and typographer Elliot Tupac and geometric kené art by the hand of the artist Olinda Silvano, Shipibo-Konibo master craftswoman. In addition, this edition will not contain only murals, but also two interdisciplinary interventions as a temporary or performative installation.

About POLINIZA DOS and POLINIZA

The event (previously known as Poliniza) was launched by the members of the CIAE (Art and Environment Research Centre of the UPV) in 2006, a pioneering project in Spain as well as a very influential and international festival of reference in the world of graffiti and urban art. Its second edition, characterised by the incorporation of new sculptural and performance performances, has been in the works since 2016.

Today, this event continues to be one of the main attractions of the university’s cultural programme, coinciding with the arrival of spring and the visit of new students to the campus. It also serves as a catalyst for the most innovative arts forms in the field of visual arts, defending the role of the university as a necessary institution for the promotion of art critics and human development.
